The old adage says to bet with your head, not your heart. And some Americans are doing just that, according to data collected by one online bookmaker.
In addition to updated election, Nevada caucus and South Carolina primary odds, the site BetOnline.ag has created infomaps that show breakdowns of which states are betting on and rooting for candidates Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg.
We encourage the use of the above maps in your publication, but we kindly ask that you credit the source, BetOnline.ag. Please let me know if you have any questions.
The rooting interest map was compiled using geotagged Twitter data and candidate hashtags such as #mayorpete2020 and #bernie2020.
The betting interest map is based on the total number of bets in each state for both candidates. For example, BetOnline reports that 1,056 Texans have bet on Sanders to win the Democratic nominee while 642 Texans have bet on Buttigieg. Therefore, the state goes to Sanders.
Interestingly, Sanders has a 41-9 state advantage in both maps. However, only one of the nine states backing Buttigieg match.
For the social media map, Buttigieg wins Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee and Virginia.
For the gambling map, Buttigieg takes Alabama, Colorado, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, North Carolina and Ohio.
Election Odds Update
Amy Klobuchar has moved past Elizabeth Warren following her strong showing in the New Hampshire primary. On February 1, Klobuchar had 50/1 odds to represent the Democratic Party in this year's election while Warren was 10/1. You can see their current odds below.
Bernie Sanders remains a short favorite to win the nominee. He is also the odds-on favorite for both the Nevada caucus and South Carolina Primary.
