The injury bug took a bite out of the NFL last week, and the setbacks have produced a trickle-down effect on the odds.
It's interesting to see how some of the key players who were injured during Week 2 will not only impact a team's Super Bowl chances, but also the week-to-week game odds.
In general, quarterbacks are the only players who can move a betting line. However, Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley, given their presence in both the rushing and passing games, have become players impact players in terms of the odds.
Below is a breakdown of what every STARTING QUARTERBACK from Week 1 is worth to a spread.
Odds and information are provided by SportsBetting.com (www.sportsbetting.com, @WeSportsBetting), which is a licensed sportsbook in Colorado.
Tier 1 (7-8 points): Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson
Tier 2 (6-7 points): Deshaun Watson, Matt Ryan
Tier 3 (5-6 points): Ben Roethlisberger, Dak Prescott, Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson
Tier 4 (4-5 points): Carson Wentz, Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill, Tom Brady
Tier 5 (3-4 points): Cam Newton, Derek Carr, Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Kirk Cousins, Philip Rivers
Tier 6 (0-2 points): Baker Mayfield, Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Dwayne Haskins, Gardner Minshew, Jimmy Garoppolo, Mitchell Trubisky, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater, Tyrod Taylor
(Note: Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley would have a Tier 6 classification.)
Assigned values can vary weekly, and they take into account a number of factors such as backup quarterback, offensive system, personnel, opponent and game situation.
For example, oddsmakers might also adjust odds slightly if a team loses multiple starters. Case in point is that despite a victory in Week 2, San Francisco's odds moved from 12-1 to 14-1 at SportsBetting.com.
The 49ers lost two starters along the defensive line, have a pair of hobbled running backs and a quarterback with a high-ankle sprain. While none of those players except Garoppolo would impact the odds on his own, the collective loss forced an adjustment to the team's Super Bowl chances.
Here's a comparison of every team's Super Bowl odds going into Week 2 and current:
