Kobe Bryant Foundation partners with NFT PFP project

The NBA preseason is underway, but over the last month the basketball community has been buzzing about excitement off the court.

For many sports fans, NBA Top Shot put NFTs (non-fungible tokens) on the map, and now a collection of 10,000 NFTs inspired by and created in the likeness of Kobe Bryant has gone viral.

The KB24 NFT project was announced Sept. 7 on KB24.com, which was Bryant's personal website from 2006 to 2016. Out of the gate, the founders stated that every penny made from the collection's initial sale and subsequent sales would be donated to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which is a non-profit organization established by the Bryant family in memory of Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, who tragically died in 2020.

The project's presale is scheduled for Friday, October 8, and the majority of the collection's mints have been whitelisted.

At a price of .08 ETH per token, a drop sellout will immediately generate nearly $3 million for the Foundation. And every secondary sale on OpenSea will also funnel 10% to the foundation (2.5% to OpenSea and 87.5% to seller).

The project’s Discord server boasts more than 25,000 community members despite a weeks-long, manual sweep that removed more than 7,000 bad actors and bots.

As reported by Forbes, the KB24 NFT project has also drawn public support from a number of current and former NBA players including, Dwight Howard, Kenny Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, Paul Pierce, Metta World Peace and Nerlens Noel.
