Playboy covergirl's NFT drop goes unnoticed

Sarah McDaniel, who appeared on the cover of Playboy in 2016, dropped a limited edition of NFTs last Wednesday, and only five of the 82 pieces have been collected.

Perhaps that was the intent? The lack of attention or promotion aligns with the path McDaniel has taken since featuring in Playboy.

McDaniel, who goes by the name "krotchy" on Instagram where she has more than 1.5 million followers (https://www.instagram.com/krotchy/), was the Playboy cover girl in March 2016 in the iconic magazine's first non-nude issue.

As McDaniel embodied the "all-natural" persona for the trailblazing Playboy edition, her career shifted from solely being a beautiful model to working as a journalist, penning columns for outlets such as the Huffington Post, and establishing herself as an artist and a film creator.

In March, McDaniel and co-creator Courtney Carter released an animated short film titled "Kerfuffle." The film became the first animated short to be sold as an NFT. It was added to the Brainfeeder Films Collection on OpenSea and sold for 1 ETH in early April.

“My first NFT drop sold out in seconds because it leveraged my image and notoriety in the modeling world,” McDaniels said of her NSFW.app collection on OpenSea. “But the Kerfuffle drop has artistic power. It spotlights the empty culture and false beauty standards that generate a darker side to our society.”

Kerfuffle is a film about the battle between the shadow side and the self. The 7-minute short reimagines what happens when we give in to fear and anxiety, and it has nearly 40,000 views on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMa6tKfqbZQ&t=4s).

Last week's NFT collection, which was curated by the Portion.io marketplace, dropped as a series of five of the Kerfuffle characters. One character, Gorkle (in black and white), was limited to just three editions and was offered at .27 ETH. The "Snurf" character had 13 NFTs with a price tag of .1 ETH while three other characters' editions were limited to 22 and were listed at .06 ETH.

At the time of this email, only five NFTs have been collected. Two of the rare Gorkles were sold, and two editions of Snurf were sent to Carter’s and McDaniels’ personal collections on OpenSea.

Carter, whose social media handle is "floontz," has earned multiple creative art awards, including Best Short Film at AFTERLIFE and Best Cinematography at the 7th Art Independent International Film Festival.

“We’re at the dial-up stage of the metaverse with NFTs,” Carter said. “Our expansion into this space means streaming all future projects only on blockchain, while fostering a community of experimental, creative collaborators and being known for more exclusive, unique visual art forms. This is our first major step in that process.”

If you are interested in interviewing McDaniel and/or Carter, please let us know.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day.

Best,
Scott
